QuikrStuff Rack compatibility with Tern HSD, GSD Gen 1, GSD Gen2

Expanding with more detail on this post about the QuikrStuff Rack from 2023. It’s still a good rack, and works better than the 1UP version that I had before. Is it perfect? No! It’s still a little small and doesn’t attach 100%.

For all three options below, I use wheel straps on both wheels like this from QuikrStuff or this from Nite Ize. I’ll also use a cable lock for one more layer of security. QuikrStuff also has wheel locks but they often don’t align quite right with these larger bikes.

Tern HSD

Good fit. Feels secure. Shorter wheel well means it sits better on the tray.

Tern GSD Gen 1

Decent fit, nearly meets the middle of the rear wheel. Feels secure.

Tern GSD Gen 2

Slightly iffy fit, barely grabs onto the rear wheel due to the integrated lower decks / Sidekick Wide Decks. Definitely use wheel straps. I’ve done this many times and haven’t had any problems.

I have this rack already and we just sold our riese and muller load 75. Looking to get a tern had now that the kids are bigger. It seems to extend quite wide past the car, at least on the passenger side, have any issues with handling the width as you navigate the city streets? Thanks for the pics.

Not really – I’m aware of it while driving and try to give more space than usual but I haven’t had any problems.

Is it possible to leave the rear arm in the down position, and just use the 25″ strap that you can purchase separately from Quikrstuff, to keep the rear wheel in place? That way the arm doesn’t stick out so far. I have a Riese and Muller Multicharger that has a rear passenger kit, similar to your Tern setup, and thinking about buying this bike rack.

Maybe possible? But I’m afraid the bike would wobble back and forth too much.
